I'm increasingly finding it easier to eat vegan when I'm out as dairy is hidden e.v.e.r.y.w.h.e.r.e and seemingly innocent plates of food have resulted in a very unhappy baby. The @holycowedinburgh was a popular suggestion from you guys - a 100% vegan burger joint tucked in the basement, blink and you'd miss it, most unassuming of locations. I went for the portobello mushroom with cashew hollandaise & asparagus whilst my little sister had her first taste of jackfruit. Both burgers packed a punch of flavour - the jackfruit in particular. They make a mean plate of homemade chips, not dissimilar to my granny's (except hers are always crinkle cut). I also went for the banoffee pie (thanks @hazelwoodlife ) which is made with coconut cream and it satisfied my sweet craving. A right proper butcher's breakfast from @cowanandsons 🍽️ Sausages and black pudding from Stockbridge's favourite butcher Bower's, vine roasted tomatoes, sourdough toast, poached eggs and portobello mushrooms. Tried out the new @kcalkitchen this week - the latest addition to the Shore. My thoughts: • The service was very poor, it was very quiet and we were sat in full view of the bar (where 3 members of staff came and went from) and I had to go and ask for a menu after 20 minutes & then a further 10 minutes to have our order taken, it wasn't particularly busy and certainly not in terms of how large the place is, they could have had a lot more covers than they did at the time • I thought it would be a good place for dairy free; they appear to have forgotten to denote which items were dairy free on the sharers and mains page (but have done it on every other page) • There aren't actually that many DF options (@gramsedinburgh has a much better selection for example) or the waitress didn't know of many • I went for the "Himalayan Salt & Chilli Chicken" but was recommended just to have grilled chicken so it would be dairy free rather than the crispy chicken as it normally comes, with wild rice. It was very average and quite small for the £10.95 that it cost. Essentially just tasted like some chicken in sweet chilli sauce • I'm sure if calorie counting is your thing you'd enjoy the premise of it (all of their meals are automatically on the Fitness Pal app I believe) but I won't personally be rushing back • Looks nice though! Brochan in bed • Never has porridge looked or tasted so good 🙌🏼 @brochan.cafe in Marchmont serving up dairy free porridge with delicious topping combos - this was the Peach Melba special but with apricots and rosemary as they'd run out of peaches and I was glad actually as I loved the little punches of rosemary in through the raspberries, pistachio crumb, toasted almonds and coconut oats and @oatly creme fraiche.
