On a mission for Brighton Girl to do a round up of the best breakfasts spots in Brighton & Hove, I happened upon the i gigi cafe which sits atop the i gigi homestore on Western Road. I’ve passed it so many times, I live and work two seconds away from it but it always kinda daunted me having to pass through the obviously expensive shop to get to the cafe.
I am so sad it took me this long to discover it 😦
The first time I went there for brunch with Jess of Jess & Josh Cook and Sammy of The Third Place for a foodie Sunday morning. I went for the eggs and avocado on toast and added crispy bacon.
The bread is hands down some of the best bread I’ve ever tasted. The eggs were perfectly poached, the avocado fresh and the cherry tomatoes were lightly roasted. The bacon lardons which were scattered over the dish were nice and salty.
On the second visit, I went with a friend for lunch after having raved about my first visit to her so much. This time, I went for the shakshuka.
The sauce was lightly spiced and took me back to Morocco where I vivid a few years ago. The coddled eggs were flavoursome and the toasted almonds completed the dish with a bit of crunch. This was a special on the menu so it’s not a permanent fixture on their menu but it was so delicious I think it should be!
The two trips were so successful that the eggs and avocado dish made it into my top breakfasts in Brighton for Brighton Girl website (you can see the full list here).
So, don’t make the same mistake as me and find this wonderful cafe just as I leave Brighton! Head down there, I’m sure it will fast become one of your favourites!
The cakes are also delicious, by the way. And their lighting is perfect for Instagram posts!
